An ambitious book rec list, audiobook news, and Horror Reader Weekend!
November fun from author L.C. Marino
Hey friends! It's a holiday week here in the US and autumn (yes, I'm being British about this) is slipping through our hands. Fret not, the cooler temps are settling into the land and the insatiable urge to get lost in a great story becomes us.
Readers of dark fiction adore this time of year. And if you're like me, completing a few reads results in a genuine sense of accomplishment. A stack of novellas and a few novels should do the trick. Here's my reading list to finish 2024!
Cadaver Bone from Wendy Dalrymple
Chopping Spree from Angela Sylvaine
Only Darkness from Yolanda Sfetsos
EynHallow from Tim McGregor
Rest Stop from Nat Cassidy
Cranberry Cove from Hailey Piper
Kill Your Darling from Clay McLeod Chapman
The Triangle Forest from Edward Flora
Disclaimer: I'm also working through edits and submission reads for Sobelo Books so that list is most likely a pipe dream but I'll do the best I can and whatever remains unread shall kickoff 2025.
Okay, I've got a few book updates for you, a free ebook offer, a new audiobook (or two), and some discussion about Horror Reader Weekend.
Bless the Mother Updates!
As I said in last month's newsletter, I absolutely LOVED writing this book. It may be my favorite of the series (so far). I'm interested in your opinion on the matter. Which book in The Haunting of the Whispering House series is your favorite?
I won't give you a weird nickname or make you drink eggnog if you haven't read it yet. But I will remind you, paperbacks and ebooks are alive and kicking. And yes, the entire series is available in Kindle Unlimited.
For the audiobook crowd, the new audiobook drops later this week (YESSS!!!) and let me tell you, Erika Calvert did a wonderful job again!
Hardcover proofs arrive this week as well. As soon as I approve the proof (say that five times fast), I'll order the first shipment and fulfill the hardcover preorders! I may be more excited about this milestone than you at this point (if you know, you know). LOL
Okay, here's a recent kick ass GoodReads review of Bless the Mother from Paige Ray:
Twenty years later we follow Abigail and Constance as they navigate life and try to sell the whispering house before it can attempt to consume them again. There’s a HUGE twist in this one that had me floored. I’ll leave it at that because anything else might spoil for those who have yet to read.
We are getting another book though! Yay! I’m curious to see what happens where this story left us on yet another cliffhanger.
Psychological Horror fans need to add this series to their shelves. If you enjoy haunted house/ghost stories then this is right up your alley. Go give it a read. You won’t be disappointed.
Want a complimentary ebook?
If you haven't read the series yet and would like a free copy of the prequel novella Bury the Child, click HERE and grab your ebook.
Only Darkness Remains News
Only Darkness Remains, the first book in the post-apocalyptic EMP survival thriller series co-authored with Zach Bohannon, is now available in audiobook! This story kicks all the action thriller ass. My comparison for this book is the movie Taken meets the end of the world. Ironically, there is more blood spilled in this series than there is in my haunted house stories so if you want some "Oh! Damn!" moments, this may be your jam.
The second book in the series, Only Survival Remains, is currently available for preorder if you finish this little ditty and want book two to magically appear in your hands upon release.
Fall Wrap Up
I attended my last two author events in November, starting with Horror Reader Weekend (Horror on the Hudson) and ending with an epic book signing event at the Barnes & Noble here in Williamsburg, VA. Meeting so many great readers at both events blew me away!
What is Horror Reader Weekend, you ask? Well, attend the next event in May and find out for yourself! I promise you will not be disappointed. Check out the lineup and event schedule HERE. What did I tell ya? Pretty sweet, right? Here's the current list of authors for those who don't want to venture to the site:
Erika T. Wurth
Lindy Ryan
Viggy Parr Hampton
Clay McLeod Chapman
L.C. Marino (oh, hello there)
Heather Mihok
Paulette Kennedy
Chris Panatier
Hailey Piper
Brandon Perras Sanchez
Elizabeth Broadbent
Sam Rebelein
Andrew K. Clark
Scott J. Moses
Aimee Hardy
What did I tell you? Killer lineup right? And the best part about these events is the next level interaction. We eat meals together, hang out and get to know each other, talk books, enjoy adult beverages, attend readings, party ... it's just the best!
Okay, friends. That's all for now. I appreciate the heck out of every one of you. Hang in there, enjoy your holiday season, reach out if you need to talk, and remember, books can be our escape.
Be good humans to each other.
Respectfully,
LC Marino
