Books, Bookish Events, and My Favorite TBR Con Costumes
Hey friends! If you're new here, welcome to the party. Let's look at the books and events that made September one of the best months of the year thus far! Hey, TBR Con friends, check out the pics below for two of my favorite attendee costumes. :)
Let's start with a shiny new book release, shall we?
New Release - Only Darkness Remains
A few weeks ago, I released a new action thriller with coauthor and bestselling post-apoc writer, Zach Bohannon. The book is currently available in paperback, ebook, and on Kindle Unlimited.
Here is the book description:
What would you sacrifice to rescue your child at the end of the world?
Retired Marine and Coast Guard officer, Carter Blake, is excited to spend the summer with his estranged daughter, Emma, before she goes off to college. He's annoyed by the news that his ex-wife allowed her to bring a friend along and that they’ll be driving from Nashville to his home in rural Southeastern Virginia, but Carter vows to make the best of the situation when they arrive.
But when a targeted EMP attack on the United States brings down the power grid and leaves most vehicles stranded and electronics useless, Carter can’t reach his daughter, and is left with no choice but to go find her.
In Tennessee, Emma Blake and her best friend, Sarah, are looking forward to a fun day at an amusement park before continuing their journey to Emma’s father’s secluded Virginia home. But when the power goes out and Emma’s car won’t start, they find themselves stuck.
Until they meet a friendly and attractive guy who promises them safety at a nearby place with electricity, running water, and a united community.
In the blazing Tennessee heat with no air conditioning, it sounds like a dream.
But for Emma, things spiral into a nightmare when she meets the community’s leader, who seems nice enough at first, but quickly shows his true intentions.
With the grid down and no way to contact her, can Carter reach Emma before he loses her forever?
Taken meets the end of the world in this post-apocalyptic EMP thriller from bestselling author, Zach Bohannon, and retired Coast Guard Officer, L.C. Marino. For fans of Kyla Stone, Jack Hunt, and William Forstchen’s One Second After.
Back on The Haunting of the Whispering House front, Bless the Mother comes home October 18th! If you haven't read Bury the Child and Burn The Girls yet, consider this your heads up to grab your copies and squeeze them in before the 18th! Those links take you to signed paperbacks, but you can also find the books on Amazon and all major retailers.
Here's the book description for your reading pleasure!
Time may heal all wounds, but time stands still for the dead.
Twenty years have passed since the horrific night in the Whispering House. Now, Abigail lives a relatively normal life as an independent bookstore owner while her sister, Constance, struggles to navigate crippling physical and psychological damage.
But when Abigail inherits the house, old memories and childhood traumas are awoken.
Abigail becomes drawn to the dreamlike allure of the house, enticed by the potential of reconnecting with their dead mother.
Meanwhile, Constance’s dormant terrors return with frightening violence.
Will they finally connect with their dead mother and cleanse the house of the evil tearing their family apart, or will the house continue its reign of psychological horror?
One thing is certain…they will discover the unsettling truth of Constance’s connection to the house and a secret Abigail’s hidden since that fateful night in the fire.
Suspenseful and immersive, Bless the Mother is the second novel in The Haunting of the Whispering House paranormal horror series.
On the road again - Tennessee Book Readers (TBR) Con
I had a great time at TBR Con in Knoxville, TN a few weeks ago. I met so many amazing readers, sold a bunch of books, and enjoyed catching up with friends. This event is for all genres, so if you're in the surrounding area, add TBR Con to your list of events to attend next September. If we met there, hit reply and let me know how life is going since we saw each other last. I was unaware we were dressing for the occasion, but these two didn't have that problem.
Next on the book selling circuit is Nightmare Weekend Richmond, October 11-13! This is my first time attending a GalaxyCon event and I'm pretty excited about experiencing a different vibe. You can save 10% on admission by using the code NIGHTMARE10 at checkout.
After this, the next live event on the schedule is Horror on the Hudson from November 1-3! This event will be special. The list of authors attending to mingle with the readers is amazing. Clay Chapman, John Langan, Rebecca Rowland, Ronald Malfi, Rachel Harrison, Christina Carmen, Nat Cassidy, Paul, Tremblay, CJ Leede, Tobin Elliot...and many others, including yours truly.
Okay, friends. That's all for now. I appreciate the heck out of every one of you. Hang in there, we're officially in the best season of the year and there are many books to read. Here's my list of recent/current reads to send this newsletter out on a high note.
No Gods, Only Chaos - LP Hernandez
In Excess of Dark - Red Lagoe
Strings - S.Q. McGrath
Glass Stories - Ivy Grimes
Chopping Spree - Angela Sylvaine
Dead Folk - Katherine Silva
The Barricade - Stephanie Ellis
