Hello, I’m Lucas. Welcome to my departure from the norm.
Like many of you, I have been an avid reader and writer my entire life. I fell in love with learning, history, and fiction very early in life. I obsessed over Stephen King and enjoyed the works of Dean Koontz, Charles Dickens, and Edgar Allen Poe. I loved the suspense of a good horror story, a speed-inducing thriller, and the rich flavors of classic literature.
As a child and teen, I spent my days playing guitar (thrash, please and thank you) and writing fiction and poetry. I loved creative writing!
I was a total mess back then and the emotional release was what kept my feet just above the ground. I suppose I was like many other kids in the 80’s and 90’s. They just weren’t around me.
Why this, why now
When I joined the US Coast Guard at the age of 19, my reading was quickly consumed by job-related content. College courses introduced me to more nonfiction. Because I’m an avid learner, I soaked it up. Before I knew it, I was barely reading any fiction at all.
As I progressed as an engineer, and later as an entrepreneur, I wrote plenty of nonfiction. I wrote several manuscripts and published academic papers. Eventually, one of my manuscripts became a real book, Monetize Your Book with a Course (publishing 27 February, 2023).
While writing that book, I fell in love with writing all over again. The stimulus for my return to fiction was present; it was time to tap into the imagination again.
We come together
Like most Substack authors, I am doing more than writing by coming to this platform. I am releasing my words to the world and hopefully, a community will form around them. I invite you to join me and fellow readers here, in this unique space. I truly hope to connect with other authors and readers here. Let’s make it fun, respectful, exciting, and engaging!
The tempo
I will publish here at least once weekly. I will publish short stories and the occasional poem. While I respect the obligation to publish weekly, I will not set too many boundaries at the onset. Afterall, you never really know where the characters and stories will take you. How could I possibly promise you that they won’t want to reach you more often?
I will also publish a reflective piece from time to time. Music and reading inspire me so I will share that inspiration with you!
